Daniel Jay Buffington, 70, of Mebane, N.C.. and formerly of Fort Dodge, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Deman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Twila Buffington; children, Tamra Buffington-Johnson of Durham, N.C., and David Jay Buffington of Anderson, S.C.; mother, Eleanor Buffington of Otho; and brother, Jack Buffington of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Buffington.

Daniel was born Feb. 10, 1941 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Twila Anderson in 1962 and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Following his honorable discharge Daniel graduated from the University of Iowa. He then was employed with Western Electric in Cicero, Ill. and was transferred to the Guildford Center in Greensboro, N.C., in 1977. He retired from Lucent Technologies in 1997.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to the V.F.W Post 1856.
