STRATFORD - Oscar E. Engstrom, 85, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, Stratford and Boone, died April 19, 1997, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness.

Services were held Tuesday, April 22, 1997 in the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Charles Colberg of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Survivors include his daughter Mary Jane Tietjen, Marion; brother Melvin Engstrom, Stanhope; sister Ethel Schlacther, Victorville, California; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Oscar Eugene Engstrom was born November 5, 1911, in Stratford, to John and Nellie (Berglund) Engstrom. On August 1, 1934, he married Eleanor Peterson at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Mary Jane.

He farmed in the Stratford and Boone areas before moving to Marion. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was a metal worker for Iowa Manufacturing.
